The Coorong National Park

The Coorong National Park is a great place to see some of the 230-odd species of waders and other migratory birds that use the immediate area. Many species travel from China, Japan and Alaska to summer in the shallow lagoons and the Park and its surrounding Lower Murray Lakes are now listed on the RAMSAR register of significant international wetland areas of the World.

Murray River Mouth

If you have your own car, 15 minutes from the Cottages will have you parked on Hindmarsh Island opposite the point where the Murray River ends its 2,700 km journey through much of south eastern Australia and enters the Southern Ocean. The narrow mouth has been in the news of late with ongoing attempts to keep it open because of severely reduced river flows impacted by the current drought and water usage issues upstream.

Lower Lakes

Kangaroo Island

The daily Fleurieu Connection coach will pick you up from Joseph’s at 7.00am for the 1-hour journey to catch the ferry across to Kangaroo Island. The 40-minute ferry crossing connects to your air-conditioned tour coach for a one day Kangaroo Island Highlights Tour. It includes visits to Seal Bay, where you can walk on the beaches with the Sea Lions, the Koala Sanctuary walk, Flinders Chase National Park, Remarkable Rocks and Admiral’s Arch. Lunch is included too. The return ferry coach will have you back at Joseph’s or Caleb's Cottage by approximately 8.45pm.
