The historic river port of Goolwa sits on the edge of the Murray River
Lakes system nearby the Great Southern Ocean.
All types of water activities may be experienced
given the proximity of vast lakes, the river, lagoons and the
sea. Cruises and various types of boat hire are available.
Surfing, wind-surfing, sailing and canoeing are popular.
The beach stretches 200km from Encounter Bay
to Lacepede Bay with 4WD access from Goolwa Beach to the Murray
Mouth. Huge barrages were constructed early in the last century
to separate the fresh water of the lakes from the salt water
of the sea and the Coorong lagoon.
The barrages also provide easily accessible fishing,
and there are numerous ramps to launch boats.

Australia's oldest railway runs between Goolwa and
Victor Harbor during school holidays and weekends. Whale watching
is popular from mid-June to October and the Goolwa Beach lookout
provides an elevated vantage point.
Cafés, restaurants, hotels and takeaways are
all a short walk from the cottage. A shopping centre with
supermarkets is just down the road. The beach and the golf course
are only minutes
away.
